We're specialized in the use of a technique, known as Majolica or Delftware, that consists roughly in the following steps: - The ceramic tiles are made of clay and fired in a kiln, for a first time, with temperatures rising to 1000 degrees centigrade. - A tin-glaze emulsion is then applied to the tile's surface. After it as completely dried, a white opaque and porous surface will be formed. The design is then painted on. - Finally the piece is fired again in the kiln, with temperatures around 1000 degrees centigrade, to achieve its final look and resistance. This ancient technique generally utilizes natural pigments that mixed together will produce the blue, yellow, brown and green traditional colors. It's preferably used to reproduce the ancient designs and motifs. Other techniques are also used to create a larger range of colors. |
